The graph above shows the number of students who came from overseas from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Malaysia from 1994 to 1997. Most countries listed above have had their number of overseas students increase by the end of the period, except for Hong Kong. In the beginning, Hong Kong was the country with the highest number, but by the end of the period, Korea and Indonesia shared the position instead. Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia all had a trend of increasing steadily. Singapore had a overseas students number of approximately 8000 students in 1997, and reached about 1300 by 1997. Malaysia began at below 11 000 students in 1994, then ended arrived with more than 15000 in 1997. Indonesia, started from exactly 11000 students to below 19000 students in 1997. Japan, Hong Kong and Korea, however, saw fluctuations throughout the three years. Japan increased their number of overseas students consistently from 1994 to 1996, but started to drop from 1996 to 1997, from more than 13000 to about 12000. Hong Kong decreased their overseas students every year until 1996 to 1997, when overseas students increased from less than 13000 to about 14000 students. Finally, Korea had a massive rise in overseas students in 1996, but decreased in 1997, from roughly 20000 students to less than 19000.
