The given line graphs show data on the number of goods transported in UK from 1974 to 2002 by four different modes: road, water, rail and pipeline. As is presented on the illustration, the transporting through road, water and pipeline's goods showed an upward trend, but rail declined noticeably. In 1974, road was on top with a transporting of 70 million tonnes, followed by rail at 40 million tonnes, water at 38 million tonnes and pipeline almost at 5 million tonnes. After a few fluctuations, the pipeline was the least used in 1974. In contrast, water transporting rose dramatically almost 60 million tonnes by 1982. The rail transporting declined to 30 million tonnes by 1982 and 1994. Transporting through road started at 70 million tonnes in 1974, but rose steadily to 75 million tonnes in 1978. From 1982 to 1990 there was a very marked increased to 82 million tonnes in transporting, but after 1994, transporting grew considerably and reached an all time high of 98 million tonnes.
