The chart compares an average price change of accommodation in five different cities over a 22-year period with the price in 1989.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that house cost in all given cities rose noticeably with the exception of Tokyo where that underwent a significant drop. Although there was a high increase between 1996 and 2002than previous years. However while house prices in London and New York went up dramatically those in Madrid and Frankfurt rose slightly with London having the most expensive accommodation.
An average pattern of house prices in the USA, the UK and Japan was similar, dropping but then rising. While all these three cities experienced a dramatic fall by approximately 5-7% in a house cost from 1998 to 1995, over the next six years the purchase price in London and New York skyrocketed, growing by 10% in New York and almost 20% in London making it the most exepensive place to accommodate. Although the of houses in Japan experienced a slight increase from 1996 to 2002, it still remained the lowest of all cities.
As for European cities Madrid and Frankfurt, the average cost of houses changed slightly, rising be about 2% and 3% respectively in the first half a decade. However, while prices continued growing in Madrid during the next 6-year period, it slightly fell in Frankfurt almost equaling Madrid's 1990-1995 figure.
