Capital punishment is carried out against convicted criminals who have been found guilty of committing heinous crimes all around the world. Some opponents of capital punishment argue that it should be forbidden, whereas proponents of death sentences point to several equally strong arguments. Both viewpoints have their merits, however, I believe that capital punishment ought to be illegal in the law systems. First and foremost, the death penalty is not a deterrent to crime. There is not the slightest credible statistical evidence that capital punishment reduces the rate of homicide. A murder usually starts from an argument that goes wrong when a person is angry or rancorous. It never crosses a murderer’s mind if they kill someone they will get the death penalty. People are still killing, and it has not slowed down the number of murder cases. Such law does nothing to protect us or our communities from the acts of dangerous criminals. Secondly, many people might face wrongful execution. A variety of individuals are claimed to have been innocent victims of the death penalty. According to the death Penalty Information Center, since 1973, hundreds of people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence in America. The problem with the death penalty is those innocent people might have been killed. No legal system is perfect, so it might make mistakes and have wrong evidence when convicting people. To sum up, capital punishment should be forbidden in the world’s law system because it is not the best way of controlling criminals and preventing other people from doing crimes. The governments should take important decisions in punishing them in other ways.
