It has been a general trend to take some time off before taking up a course in graduation school. Although some believe that, it is a complete waste of time and resources, I strongly advocate that, the students should take some time out to explore their options by going to places or having some hands-on experience.
It can be too hasty and perilous to choose a career path without experiencing the same. For instance, a student may be fascinated by chemistry and choose to enter a field of research and development. But, If he lacks the physical and mental capacity to stand long hours in the laboratories or bear the odour of chemicals, he may land in a turmoil later in life. Therefore, gaining work-experience is of utmost importance. Moreover, having first-hand experience in the subject will help understand the concepts that are being done in the class better. This will give the learner with work-experience an upper-hand over his counterparts.
In recent times, more high school graduates prefer to travel to new place just before taking up their graduation course. Travelling offers a plethora of experiences which are important. Travelling after a rigorous final year in school gives teenagers time to unwind. They can use the time to understand what they want from their lives as compared to mechanically following a peer into a course. This inner motivation and purpose help them choose what is right for them.
In conclusion, it is better to make an informed and well -thought choice by taking some time off and reflecting on the options rather than making a rushed and a wrong decision. This will save a lot of regret later in life.
